Fixing your Xbox One headset
If your Xbox One headset is having audio issues, there are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem. First, make sure that your controller is updated. If that doesn’t work, try restarting your console. If the problem persists, you may need to get a new headset.
Check if your Xbox One headset is properly connected
There are three ways to use Xbox One headsets: wired directly to the console’s controller, via Bluetooth connected to the console, or wired directly to an Xbox One accessory such as the Kinect sensor.
If your headset is not working properly, it’s possible that it’s not properly connected. First, check to see if your headset is connected directly to your controller using a 3.5mm cable. If it is, unplug the cable from your controller, and then plug it back in again.
If your headset is not working when connected directly to your controller, it’s possible that the 3.5mm jack on your controller is damaged. To check this, plug your headset into another controller (or another Xbox One console), and see if it works. If it does, then the problem is with your controller and you’ll need to get a new one.
If you’re using a Bluetooth headset, make sure that it’s properly paired with your Xbox One console. To do this, go to Settings > Devices & connections > Devices and accessories, and then select your headset from the list of devices. If it’s not listed here, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for pairing the device with your console.
Check if your controller has fresh batteries
If you’re having trouble hearing people through your Xbox One headset, the first thing you should do is check the batteries in your controller. If they’re running low, that could be the culprit. You can use either AA batteries or the Xbox One Play and Charge Kit to power your controller and headset.
Xbox one headset mic not working but can hear
If you’re having trouble hearing chat over the game audio or your mic isn’t working on Xbox One, here are some troubleshooting steps to try:
First, make sure the audio settings on your Xbox One are correctly configured:
Go to Settings > All Settings.
Select Display & sound.
Under Output, check that the Balance is set evenly between the left and right speakers.
If you’re using a headset connected to your Xbox One Controller, check the following:
The volume setting for the headset should be turned up. You can adjust this by rotating the volume wheel on the left ear cup of the headset.
The mute setting for the mic is turned off. You can check this by flipping up the mic boom. If you see a red LED next to the mic boom, the mic is muted.
If you’re using a Kinect Sensor for voice chat, make sure it’s properly connected and powered on. Learn how to connect and set up your Kinect Sensor for use with Xbox One.
Make sure your controller has fresh batteries. If you’re using an Xbox Play & Charge Kit, make sure it’s properly plugged in and that your controller is fully charged.
Check your Xbox One chat mixer settings
If you can hear sound through your Xbox One headset but the microphone isn’t working, it may be due to the chat mixer settings in the Xbox Dashboard. Follow these steps to check your settings:
1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
2. Select System > Settings > General > Volume & audio outputs.
3. Under Output, check if the volume level for your headset is set too low. If it’s set too low, raise it until you can hear sound through your headset.
4. Under App volume and chat mixer, adjust the settings for game chat and party chat volume. For game chat, make sure that something other than “Off” is selected. For party chat, make sure that both Other voices and My voice are set to an appropriate level.
Check if your Xbox One headset is muted
If you can’t hear sound, or if others can’t hear you when you use the Xbox One Headset, try the following solutions:
Check if your Xbox One headset is muted
To check this, do the following:
-Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
-Select Settings.
-Select All Settings.
-Under Account, select Privacy & online safety.
-Under App privacy, select Microphone. You should see a switch under Allow apps to access your microphone. If this switch is turned off, turn it on.
Check if your Xbox One headset is set as the default audio device
On your Xbox One controller, press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then go to System > Settings > General > Volume & audio.
Under Output, check to see if your headset appears in the list of devices. If it doesn’t appear, follow these steps:
-Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
-Go to System > Settings > Devices & connections.
-Select Accessories.
-If your headset appears in the list of accessories, select it, and then select Configure. If you don’t see your headset listed, it may need to be reset. For more info about how to do that, see How to reset your Xbox One headset.
-On the audio configurations page, under Headset format, select Stereo uncompressed.
-Select Done.
Try a different Xbox One headset
If you’ve tried the headset that came with your Xbox One and it didn’t work, or if you’re using a different headset and it’s not working, the problem may be with the headset—not the controller or the Xbox One console.
Here are some things to try:
– Make sure your headset is plugged into the right port on your controller. The headset jack is on the bottom of the controller. If you’re using a headset that came with your Xbox One, it’s already set up. If you’re using a different headset, plug it into the 3.5-mm port on your controller and then go to Settings and select Devices & accessories to configure it.
– If you’re using an Xbox One stereo headset adapter, make sure it’s plugged in correctly. The adapter goes in the bottom of your controller so that the 3.5-mm port is exposed. For more info about how to use an adapter with older versions of Headsets for Microsoft consoles, see Using Apple EarPods with Your Xbox 360 Console or Using Third-Party Headsets on Your Xbox 360 Console.
– Check that your controllers are up to date by going to Settings > Devices & accessories and selecting Update controller. You might be prompted to update automatically when you connect a new accessory or accessory type for the first time such as a Steering Wheel for Xbox One or Arcade Stick for Xbox One.
– Try different audio settings in your game or app by going to Settings > Display & sound > Volume, and then choose App volume and chat mixer and adjust accordingly.
